To ensure maximum viability and vigor, every grain spawn bag is prepared fresh to order. Please allow approximately 3–4 weeks for G2 or 4–6 weeks for made-to-order G1 for grain preparation, sterilization, inoculation, complete colonization, quality inspection, and packaging before shipment.

We only offer G2 for strains we are actively growing, so you never wait on a strain we don't have ready. If G2 shows as sold out, you can still order G1, prepared fresh for you from our liquid culture. Prefer to grow G1 yourself? Our Grain Spawn Kit lets you inoculate the bags in your own space. Running a farm and need G2 every week? Contact us to arrange regular weekly deliveries. The first shipment takes about 4–6 weeks to prepare.

Grower Difficulty Notice:

Maitake is considered an advanced-level species to cultivate, more challenging than beginner-friendly mushrooms like oyster varieties. Grain colonization alone can take 3–6 weeks, followed by a further 6–8 weeks of substrate incubation before fruiting, and this extended cycle increases exposure to contamination. Fruiting also requires more precise temperature and humidity control than most gourmet species. Even with correct technique and healthy spawn, some strains and attempts may not reliably produce fruiting bodies — this is a known characteristic of the species, not a defect. We recommend this product for growers who already have solid experience with bulk substrate cultivation.

Storage:

For best results, use the grain spawn as soon as possible after arrival. If storage is necessary, keep refrigerated at 2–8°C (35–46°F) and protected from direct light. Do not freeze. Fresh grain spawn provides the most vigorous colonization.
