Species: Volvariella volvacea
Common Names: Paddy Straw Mushroom, Straw Mushroom, and Rice Straw Mushroom
Culture Collection Origins: USA
Paddy Straw Mushroom is one of the world's fastest-growing gourmet mushrooms and has been cultivated throughout Asia for centuries. It is recognized for its smooth gray to brown cap, delicate white stem, and tender texture with a rich, earthy flavor that is especially popular in stir-fries, soups, curries, and other Southeast Asian dishes. Unlike most cultivated mushrooms, Paddy Straw is a true tropical species that thrives under warm growing conditions, making it an excellent choice for growers in hot climates where many other gourmet mushrooms struggle.
Beyond its outstanding culinary qualities, Paddy Straw Mushroom is naturally rich in dietary protein, fiber, B vitamins, essential minerals, and antioxidants. It has also attracted scientific interest for its naturally occurring polysaccharides and other bioactive compounds, contributing to its reputation as both a gourmet and functional mushroom.
Each liquid culture contains actively growing mycelium from a selected culture, providing a more consistent starting point than working from spores.
What You Receive:
- One freshly prepared 10 mL liquid culture syringe
- Syringe supplied closed and securely capped
- One sterile needle
- One alcohol preparation wipe
Freshly Prepared and Contamination-Screened:
Every syringe is prepared fresh under sterile conditions after your order is received. Before shipment, a sample from each batch is transferred onto sterile agar in a Petri dish and observed during a quality-control screening period to verify the absence of contamination.
Please allow 1–3 business days for this contamination-screening process to be completed before your order is dispatched.
Quality Guarantee:
If your liquid culture is confirmed to be contaminated upon arrival, contact us promptly with clear photographs. We will review the claim and, if confirmed, provide a replacement at no additional charge.
Proper sterile technique must be used after opening, as contamination introduced during handling, inoculation, storage, or cultivation is outside our control.
Typical Fruiting Time:
Under optimal cultivation conditions, Paddy Straw Mushroom typically produces its first harvest approximately 2–3 weeks after substrate inoculation, depending on the substrate, incubation temperature, humidity, and environmental conditions.
Storage:
Do not refrigerate or freeze this culture.
Unlike most gourmet mushroom species, Paddy Straw Mushroom is a tropical fungus that is sensitive to low temperatures. Prolonged refrigeration may damage or kill the culture.
Store the syringe at room temperature (20–30°C / 68–86°F) in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight. For best results, use the culture as soon as possible after receiving it.
Gently shake the syringe before use to evenly redistribute the mycelium.
Important Information:
This product does not include cultivation instructions. Customers are responsible for researching the appropriate substrate, incubation conditions, fruiting temperatures, humidity, fresh-air exchange, and other cultivation requirements for Paddy Straw mushrooms before purchasing.
Liquid culture appearance naturally varies. Healthy mycelium may appear as cloudy, wispy, stringy, or suspended white growth within the nutrient solution.
